AI Contract Analysis
Use AI to identify risks, extract clauses, and get improvement suggestions.
The AI analysis panel in the contract editor provides three types of automated analysis: risk assessment, clause extraction, and improvement suggestions. Each can be run independently on any contract.
Where to find the AI panel
Open any contract in the editor (/contract/:id). On the right side of the screen, you'll see the AI analysis panel. If it's collapsed, click the panel icon or the AI Analysis tab to expand it.
Risk analysis
Risk analysis scans your contract for clauses that may represent legal, financial, or operational risks. To run it:
- Open the AI panel
In the right-hand panel, select the Risk Analysis tab.
- Click Analyze
The AI will scan the full contract text. Analysis typically takes 10–30 seconds depending on contract length.
- Review findings
Results are organized by risk level (high, medium, low). Each finding identifies the specific clause, explains the risk, and suggests how to address it.
Clause extraction
Clause extraction identifies and categorizes the key clauses in your contract. This is useful for quickly understanding what a contract covers, especially when reviewing an imported document.
The AI extracts clauses such as:
- Payment terms and conditions
- Termination provisions
- Confidentiality and NDA obligations
- Limitation of liability
- Governing law and dispute resolution
- Intellectual property ownership
- Warranties and representations
Improvement suggestions
The suggestions tab shows AI-generated recommendations for strengthening the contract. This includes:
- Missing clauses common to this contract type
- Vague language that should be made more specific
- Clauses that may be unenforceable in the relevant jurisdiction
- Industry-standard provisions that are absent
Click any suggestion to see the full recommendation, including a proposed clause text that you can copy directly into the editor.
Chat with your contract
In addition to the automated analysis panels, you can also ask freeform questions about your contract using the contract chat. Click the Chat icon in the AI panel to open a conversation thread scoped to the current contract — ask anything: "What is the notice period in this contract?" or "Does this agreement limit liability for indirect damages?"
Run risk analysis before sending a contract for review — it often catches issues that would otherwise require multiple rounds of revision, saving time for everyone involved.
