Filtering and Refining Results
Narrow search results by document type, date, jurisdiction, and more.
After running a search, you can apply filters to narrow results to exactly what you need. Filters are available in the panel on the left side of the search results screen.
Available filters
Document type
Filter by the type of legal document — for example, show only Laws, only Decrees, or only Circulars. You can select multiple document types at once.
Date range
Restrict results to documents published within a specific period. Use this to find recent legislation on a topic, or to research the law as it stood at a particular point in time.
Jurisdiction / Country
Filter by country to see only documents from a specific jurisdiction. Use the Country dropdown in the search bar or filter panel to choose from UAE, Morocco, Saudi Arabia, and other supported jurisdictions.
Show abrogated documents
By default, Lawis shows both in-force and abrogated (repealed) documents. Toggle the Abrogated filter to hide repealed texts and see only currently valid law — useful when you only need to know the current legal position.
Abrogated documents can still be valuable for understanding legal history, contract interpretation, or assessing rights that arose under the old law. Use this filter based on what your research requires.
Saving searches
Once you have a search query and filters set up, you can save the search to quickly return to it later. Click the Save search option from the results toolbar. Saved searches appear in your search history and can be accessed any time from the search screen.
Bookmarking documents
Within any search result or open document, click the Bookmark icon to add it to your personal document library. Bookmarked documents are stored in your profile and accessible from the search screen's Bookmarks tab — no need to re-run the same search every session.
Tips for better results
- Start broad, then apply filters to narrow — don't over-filter before seeing initial results
- Combine date range with document type for precise research
- Use the jurisdiction filter when comparing how different GCC countries approach the same issue
- Save commonly used filter combinations as saved searches for efficiency
